Celebration of Creativity - November 4

This fall, on the first Sunday afternoon in November, we will have a

“Celebration of Creativity”

—an art show to share our talents for making beautiful and meaningful things with music, drama, photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, fabric arts, culinary arts, woodworking, decorative crafts, creative writing, and so on and on.

Why are we doing this? For one thing, celebrations of creativity are fun; they are a great way to learn more about one another and care more for one another. There are many gifted artists and musicians and craftspeople at May Memorial—some you know and others you will discover at this event. So, “fellowship” is one good reason for our gathering.

So, plan to join in the celebration on Sunday, November 4. Please show us what you’ve made and come to enjoy what others have created.

Kingdom Kids!

But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."

We would love to have your children, K-5, join us this year at May Memorial's KINGDOM KIDS!!  We meet after school each Wednesday from 4-5:45 PM.  (We will arrange for school buses to drop off at the church or can get transportation for your child if in a different Powhatan Co school district)

During our first unit, we will explore the Bible through art and science. It will be messy, hands on and exciting as we make soda geysers, lava lamps and slime all while learning that God is all we need!

We will learn about giving, serving, welcoming and praying through our unit on ROBOTS!!

Our next unit is CAMPFIRE STORIES where we will learn how to trust and obey and how honesty and faith will guide us closer to God as he provides for us, prepares us and stands with us.

It will be a year of fun, food, games, fellowship, but most importantly...a year of growth in learning about our maker and savior.  Please let me know if your child can be a part of this exciting new adventure of KINGDOM KIDS at May Memorial.

Soul Food Sundays Are Back!!!

The first quarter this year we will be studying 1 Timothy 4:12..."Don't let anyone think less of you because you are young.  Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity."

The start of a new school year can be a very exciting but also a very scary time.  Some youth may feel as if they don't quite measure up.  There will always be someone who is taller, faster, smarter, prettier...Sometimes they can feel like an outsider looking in and can wonder how and why God would ever want to use them.  God has an amazing way of using us all...even those that feel discarded...in a big way!  We will dive into 1Timothy and see examples of outcasts and outsiders and see how God used them and how he has an amazing plan for using us!!

We will be meeting in the youth house at 6:00 p.m.

Jubilee Blue Grass Band - October 21

Concert at May Memorial Baptist Church

October 21 at 5:00 p.m.

Jubilee was first formed 20 years ago and has undergone several changes throughout the years.  The current players have been together 5 years.  The band features:

                Joe Will:                          Mandolin
                Angela Will:                     Vocal
                Leonard Bruffey:              Banjo
                Tom Fifer:                        Guitar
                Calvin Acree:                   Guitar
                Jeff Parker:                      Bass

We seek to share our love of and appreciation for bluegrass music with anyone that has an interest in the rich history and musical diversity found in the genre.  We play for folks in retirement homes, church congregations, family reunions, corporate functions – you name it, we’ll be there.  Conversely, we also enjoy simply gathering on Sunday nights at Joe’s house for two hours of pickin’ and grinnin’ with no one listening but ourselves.

We hope you’ll enjoy our program of bluegrass and Southern gospel music.  Feel free to sing along, and if you brought an instrument, come up and join us for a song or two. - Jubilee Blue Grass Band

All Saints Service - November 4

All Saints Sunday - November 4
During worship on Sunday, November 4 we will thank God for the saints of May Memorial Baptist Church and the saints in our lives.

To celebrate All Saints' Sunday this year, during communion we will present photorgraphs of our saints.  This is a reminder that the veil that separates heaven from earth is very thin, and that when we gather at the table we are truly at a "thin place."
This will be done quietly during communion, a strong reminder that one day all of Christ's followers will be gathered around a table with each other and Christ in His kingdom.
You can email Diana at maymem@verizon.net or Michael at revmkedwards@gmail.com  a photo.
The deadline for receiving photographs is Wednesday, October 31 at 11:00 am.
