A New Start

I love beginnings.  When something is new and fresh, when there are new possibilities on the horizon, it brings a sense of energy and excitement of what can be accomplished, gained, and learned.  This fondness towards beginnings must be why so many people make New Year’s resolutions.  This is going to be the year that I eat healthier.  This is going to be the year that I save more money.  This is going to be the year when I exercise regularly.  We just love a fresh start, when we have a clean slate, as it were, to improve on the story that we lived last year.

As a church we are at a fresh start.  With the beginning of our new church year next Monday we have on the horizon new possibilities, new leaders, new opportunities, and new potential for growth.  This sense of newness brings excitement, and I felt it this past weekend.  Sunday evening we had a great gathering on the front lawn, where members and visitors came together in fellowship and community.  There are wonderful events and ministries planned for this Fall, and I am full of hope for all the ways God will bless us in this season.  May Memorial is blessed with wonderful leadership in all ministry areas, and good things are happening.

As I think about this coming church year, I want to offer several strong encouragements for you.

First, become a part of our Wednesday night program.  Our Wednesday night schedule begins on September 10, and just as last year May Memorial will offer several good opportunities for your entire family.  Each Wednesday afternoon children are invited to Kingdom Kids at 4:15.  Everyone is welcome to have dinner with the church family at 5:30.  After dinner the youth will meet for their weekly gathering, and there will be a program in the Fellowship Hall for adults.  If you come on Wednesday nights you really begin to get to know your brothers and sisters at May Memorial and can see how a church is truly a family.

Second, consider joining the adult choir.  While the adult choir works very hard in rehearsal time you will find a great sense of satisfaction in singing and offering your voice to God.  The adult choir sings each week in worship, and being a part of leading worship with the choir offers a creative way to serve God and Christ’s Church.

Third, join a Sunday School class.  May Memorial has a wide variety of Sunday School classes for all ages.  We are blessed with hard-working, insightful teachers who bring Scripture to life in engaging ways.

In addition to these there are many other ways to become more involved in Christ’s Church this coming year, and you owe it to yourself to find a way to join in God’s work here.  Good things are happening at May Memorial, and what a joy it is to join in what God is doing in our midst.
